EQUA is dedicated to developing state-of-the-art building simulation software together with established high-quality standards and leading-edge technology development. IDA ICE 5 is EQUA’s dynamic equation-based simulation technology, continually evolving and capable of delivering robust, scalable, flexible, and environmentally sustainable modeling for new and refurbished buildings.
Project participation
Specializing in the development of advanced simulation applications, harnessing equation-based physical modelling and efficient numerical methods to deliver cutting-edge solutions. One of the standout offerings in the company’s portfolio is IDA ICE, a powerful building performance simulation (BPS) tool. IDA ICE is primarily used during the design phase of construction and/or renovation projects to calculate energy performances and forecast indoor climate conditions. This provides engineers and architects with data to create more energy-efficient, comfortable, and sustainable buildings at the beginning of the project.
However, the value of IDA ICE doesn’t stop at the design phase. As buildings move into the operations phase, the model can be re-used to compare predicted energy performance with real-world data. By incorporating measurements from the building management system (BMS) and associated sensors, building operators can ensure that actual energy performance aligns with the original expectations. A key challenge in this process is the time-consuming task of mapping simulation variables to the available measurements.
EQUA is working with innovative technologies, including metadata knowledge graphs and AI to eliminate the need for manual intervention in this process, and ultimately enable an automated transition of a BPS design model into a building tracker. This real time dynamic simulation, connected to the BMS system via measurement feedback, will be the base for services like virtual sensing, fault detection, ‘what if’ analysis, and model predictive control (MPC).
Looking ahead, EQUA is also developing a cloud infrastructure and toolkit to support the large-scale deployment of digital twins for buildings. Digital twins will serve as the foundation for delivering real-time optimization of building systems, creating value for building owners, operators, and occupants alike. Through the Dig-IT Lab competence center, EQUA will gain access to experimental facilities, useful datasets, and valuable expertise. This will further accelerate the development and successful application of building tracking systems, paving the way for real-world optimization and improved efficiency in building management.
