Dig-IT Lab in short

Dig-IT Lab is a competence centre, jointly founded by Vinnova, KTH and industry, aiming at reducing the environmental impact of buildings through digitalisation. We promote collaboration with academia, industry, and related research centers worldwide to accelerate the transformation of data collected from buildings into tangible impact.

The goal of the new competence centre Dig-IT Lab is to harvest the benefits of digitalisation and make buildings more efficient and sustainable through collaboration and efficient use of data, reducing CO2 emissions, and accelerating the market introduction of new technologies. It will be a dynamic arena for academia, industry, and policy to collaborate and co-create innovative solutions.

The objectives are to maximise the benefits of digitalisation throughout a building’s lifespan, to increase and share knowledge, and develop essential competencies for a digitally driven built environment. The center also promotes cross-disciplinary collaboration and research in key areas like digital twins and business models. It provides a neutral testing environment for joint R&D and technology transfer. Also, Dig-IT Lab will contribute to Sweden’s competitiveness and leadership in digitalisation within the built environment.

Dig-IT Lab will establish several new virtual testbeds within its framework, including an overarching ”Testbed Xn”. These will support research and development related to interoperability, optimisation, operation, business models, organisation, sustainability, and circularity. Ethical considerations, legal compliance, and lifelong learning are also key areas of Dig-IT Lab.

The centre builds on and expands existing research and collaboration within the research centre KTH Live-In Lab.
