The RealEstateCore (REC) consortium has released a new Lighting domain extension to its open-source ontology, advancing standardisation in smart building lighting systems.
Developed with Fagerhult Group and Zumtobel Group, the RealEstateCore Lighting Extension defines a shared, interoperable language for modeling lighting devices, behaviors, and control systems. The new domain provides concrete benefits for property owners and facility managers, enabling vendor-neutral integration, improved monitoring and control, faster maintenance, and support for energy-saving, daylight-responsive lighting strategies.
The KTH Dig-IT Lab testbed platform enabled real-world validation of the Lighting extension, allowing the model to be tested and refined across diverse building systems and use cases.
